What is Three Eighty One, Inc? Founded in 2013, (381) is a black-owned youth services
Non-Profit Organization based in New York City. Our name is derived from the 381
days of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, one of the most enduring acts of civil disobedience
in American history. As pioneers in the fight for educational equality, we provide
alternative pathways toward success utilizing targeted training, mentorship, and
partnerships with various community extracurricular youth programs.
Three Eighty One, inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
Programs that place a heavy focus on academic achievement all covet the brightest
students in our inner city. But even some of these students can at times fall through
the cracks due to a lack of awareness of these programs. And others, who may not
boast the same academic acuity but demonstrate leadership characteristics through
excellence in extracurricular areas—these urban students are often discouraged by
teachers and parents alike who believe rigorous study is the one golden path to success.
Extensive discussions with various admissions personnel at top-tier private schools
as well as pre-adolescent behavioral specialists have proven this assertion to be
false, especially with the competitive economy of this era. We understand the inclination
to over-emphasize things like grades and test scores, but we find that urban students
often have to abandon their passions to do so. We challenge this notion with our
unique development strategy.
